Global Green USA

Los Angeles Times Magazine
(July 12, 2009) For much of Los Angeles’ early history, resource allocation meant bringing water to its citizens through remarkably ingenious means (We’ll divert a lake!) but little foresight (We’ll suck it dry in a decade!). Contemporary L.A. does better in regulating its profligate thirst, but as Krug sees it, there are new frontiers of water conservation that beg to be explored.

Global Green USA

The Journal of Commerce - Flush with Opportunities
(February 2009) A water shortage spurred the idea. Trillions of gallons of fresh water are literally flushed away in urinals around the world. There had to be a better way—so thought Ditmar Gorges, inventor of a waterfree urinal. Now, thanks to his company, Falcon Waterfree Technologies, little cartridges that absorb urine without the need for water are becoming a staple in male restrooms across the globe. (Note: This feature was originally published in Shipping Digest, which is now The Journal of Commerce)

Watt Plaza

Water Conservation Reaches New Heights with Falcon Waterfree Urinals in Los Angeles High-Rise
(November 2008) The twin office towers of Watt Plaza in Century City are the first Class A commercial high rise in Los Angeles to undergo a 100% retrofit with Falcon Waterfree urinals. The resulting 2.2 million gallon per year water savings at this single building provides welcome relief for the drought stricken area and exemplifies the success of comprehensive planning by local officials.
